Boris wants to ban petrol and diesel vehicles from central London

Petrol or diesel cars, buses, taxis, vans and lorries will be banned from central London during office hours under plans put forward by Boris Johnson.

The Mayor of London said that his intention was to create the world?s first ultra-low emissions zone. He asked Transport for London, the body he chairs, to launch a feasibility study for introducing the ban on all but zero- or low-emission vehicles by 2020.

He said he hoped the study would provide a spur to car manufacturers to accelerate development of electric and hybrid vehicles, including taxis.

Mr Johnson declined to set the geographic boundaries
