HOW WE MAKE IT
The Arts of Life, which provides services for artists with developmental disabilities, will open its latest exhibition, How We Make It, at the studio and gallery at 2010 W. Students Horace Nowell and Stacy Jean-Baptiste have been chosen Meteors of the Month at De La Salle Institute. Eight students have been named Illinois State Scholars for the 2012-13 school year: Briana Martinez, Anna Nowaczyk, and Megan Wood from the Lourdes Hall Campus for Young Women and, at the Institute Campus, Simon Cotton, Michael Fuchs (Bridgeport), Alejandro Herrera (Bridgeport), Ulices Montoya (Little Village), and Jarrett Robinson. The school recently welcomed Abraham Lincoln historian George Buss to its Institute Campus. Buss performed in character as Lincoln, portraying the 16th president while giving a speech and leading discussions and a question-and-answer session with students.

The school?s 43rd annual Honors Geometry Bridge Contest was held recently. Finishing first with a bridge that held 95 pounds was Jose Banuelos. Placing second was Jeffrey VanDyke, whose bridge held 90 pounds. Third place went to Christopher Beccaria (Loop) with 80 pounds. Earning fourth place was Joseph Musco (Bridgeport) with 75 pounds. Tying for fifth place with 65 pounds were Antonio Barragan, David Dixon (Woodlawn), and Jeremy Siegel (South Loop).

The school?s junior varsity water polo team placed second at the annual St. Patrick High School Frosh-Soph Water Polo tournament in March. The team beat Hinsdale Central, Glenbrook South, and host team St. Patrick. Fenwick took first place. Top scorers for De La Salle were sophomores Omar Garcia and Robert Rodriquez, scoring a combined 20 goals for the tournament.
