New York may an international city but New Yorkers can be as provincial as a village mayor. We get so wrapped up in our daily lives that we think that upstate is anything north of 59th street. Well here?s some news for you: You can hop on a Metro North commuter train and within 2 hours you?ll find yourself in one of the most beautiful?? settings for outdoor activity on the planet ? the Hudson Valley.
The Walkway over the Hudson is a tribute to the importance of outdoor activity in the Hudson Valley. It?s a linear park over an old railroad bridge linking rail trails on both sides of the river. You?ll find it in Poughkeepsie, at the end of Metro North?s Hudson Line. On this sunny Sunday it was the site of a fun 5K run, part of the first Outdoor Adventure Expo.
Exhibitors at the Expo touted a full menu of outdoor recreational opportunities. Here?s a quick taste.
There are no mountains in the riverfront park, so they improvised for a photo shoot demonstrating that? mountain biking is a big part of the action sports scene in the region.
Hudson Valley Outdoor Adventure Expo was a showcase for a wide variety of recreational activities in New York?s Hudson Valley, just a short Metro North commuter train ride form Grand Central Terminal? in the heart of New York City.
