Tree climbing harness is the safety device created to terminate the possibilities of falling from a tree. It is a looped device which is assembled with ropes, cables, webbing and locking device. Rope is the linear collection of plies which are braided together producing tensile strength perfect for lifting and supporting weights. Webbing is the strong fabric which has similar purposes like in the ropes. Cable is the bonding of two or more wires running side by side to form a heavy strong rope. Locking device is used to keep the ropes and cables together. These four plays important roles in safety in harness.
The main idea of safety in tree climbing harness is focusing the weight of the person into a certain portion of the body. This will direct the weight at the center of gravity of the person resulting in evenly distributed and balanced down force good for stability. Focused weight is supported firmly by the ropes, cables or webbing which are credited for their tensile strength. To secure the ropes together, it is locked by devices such as binders and snaps. This will avoid plugging out of the knots and ties.
It has four different types which are based from the purposes and constructional shape of the harness. These are waist harness, climbing shorts, chest harness and full body harness. Each has a distinct specification and purpose meant for matching the safety with the preference of the user.
* Waist harness is the protective harness placed on the waist of the climber. The belt loop around the waist is made for the support of the spinal column. While leg loops are made to concentrate the weight load at the thighs.
* Climbing shorts is the protective harness placed on the lower portions of the body. It is presented in customized shorts with a hip belt which results in comfort and level of freedom in movement.
* Chest harness is the protective harness placed on the upper portions of the body. It is the harness suited for persons with waist size problems (either too small or too big). It is not recommended to be worn with just itself. It should either go with a line tied around the waist or combined with waist harness.
* Full body harness is the protective harness that serves optimum safety for all users. This is the best tree climbing harness suited for children since it completely prevents the child from falling in all directions.
Harnesses are fixated to carry certain weight. Consumers are recommended to use harness that match up their weight because no matter how sturdy and durable the harness is, it will break if weight limitations are met.
