Tom Brady participated in practice Thursday on a limited basis because of a left shoulder injury.
The New England quarterback had missed Wednesday's session, but the team said his absence was not injury-related.
Comcast SportsNet reported that same day Brady had X-rays to check for a separated left shoulder and was told he was "all set." Patriots spokesman Stacey James said Thursday: "If there was an injury then it would be on the injury report."
Brady was listed on Thursday's report as having participated on a limited basis with the shoulder injury. He's expected to play Sunday for the Patriots, who can lock up home-field advantage throughout the AFC playoffs with a win or tie against Buffalo. Brady landed on his shoulder with 1:40 left Saturday when he was tackled by Kevin Burnett in a 27-24 win over Miami.
Broncos: Safety Brian Dawkins watched practice from the sideline, unable to participate for a second day because of a neck injury that has left him questionable for Sunday's game against Kansas City. He's been sidelined for all but one quarter in the last two weeks, when Denver has given up 40 and 41 points in losses to Buffalo and New England. Coach John Fox described Dawkins' availability as day to day.
Cowboys: With tape still wrapped around his bruised throwing hand after practice, quarterback Tony Romo insists he'll be ready to play Sunday against the New York Giants. "Each day it's getting a
little bit better," he said. "We'll be good to go this weekend." Romo wore the protective wrap on his swollen right hand, the one he banged on a defender's helmet on the opening series Saturday against Philadelphia. The Cowboys-Giants game will decide the NFC East title.Giants: Defensive end Osi Umenyiora is optimistic but uncertain about his status for Sunday against Dallas. He's missed the past four games with a high ankle sprain but has practiced on a limited basis this week.
Steelers: Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger doesn't want his sprained left ankle to keep him out of the regular-season finale Sunday against Cleveland. "As long as I can deal with pain, I'll be out there," he said. Roethlisberger, who sat out the Steelers' win Saturday against St. Louis, fully participated in practice again. He said the ankle, sprained Dec. 8 against the Browns, was "a little sore."
Vikings: Running back Adrian Peterson has scheduled surgery to repair his left knee. Dr. James Andrews will perform the operation Friday in Birmingham, Ala., six days after Peterson tore the anterior cruciate and medial collateral ligaments in his knee against Washington. The Vikings have said they expect him to be ready for next year's opener.
Saints: Running back Pierre Thomas was fined $7,500 for a touchdown celebration in which he placed a bow on a football and gave it to a fan against Atlanta on Monday night. He also violated NFL policies by wearing Christmas-themed green-and-red tape on his Saints uniform, and his fine for that was $5,000.
